First of all, I would like to introduce myself! My name is Elizabeth Iglesias but my friends call me Liz! I am a bilingual certified teacher in Houston, TX. I am ecstatically married and have been for the past 17 years! My hubby is very supportive and, as the cliche goes, my best friend! We are the proud fur parents of two amazing Yorkies! Hazel and Hudson are our babies and always manage to get into trouble.
I just want you to know that I LOVE LOVE LOVE what I do! I am lucky enough to work for the school district where I went and graduated from AND am happy to give back and be a role model for the students. There is just something about it that feels safe and like family.
When I first starting teaching 5th grade BILINGUAL science, I quickly realized that I was on an island all by myself. My students came to me from elementary school with little to no background knowledge, limited vocabulary, and limited English. I spent countless hours trying to create activities that would give me the most bang. As all teachers know, my roster constantly changed and often times I would have new students from Spanish speaking countries that would have to take the STAAR test in Spanish. I looked EVERYWHERE for quality Spanish TEKS aligned material and guess what? I did not find anything! I was invited to join my district’s Science Curriculum Writing Team and began presenting at the district level to help other teachers with English Language Learners in their classrooms. I am in TEACHER HEAVEN now!
That’s the back story in a New York minute. I decided to pursue my passion of science with curriculum writing and Creando Einsteins was born! So, thank you for beginning my new adventure with me!
